TACK, NAILS
Description: This is a large-headed nail available in copper, aluminum, or blued steel. Small-headed tacks, called gimp tacks, are also available. The sizes range from 7/16 inch to 9/16 inch, but tacks over 1 inch long can be found. Buying information: Tacks are mostly used for securing upholstery, but they have other uses. Copper tacks can be used to secure webbing on outdoor furniture, for example, and in marine applications. Aluminum tacks, usually 7/16 inch or 1/2 inch, can be used for securing screening to wood frames. Gimp tacks are good for securing carpet. How-to hints: To secure carpeting with gimp tacks, drive them in along the edge. The heads will grip the base of the carpet but will not be visible beneath the pile. |
