SCREW EYE
Description: This is a closed hook with a straight shank, part of which may be threaded like a lag screw, or with a blunt end and fine threads like a machine screw. Buying information: It is commonly used to hang things. For example, the screw eye with the lag-screw end can be turned into wood and the item hung from the eye. Or the screw eye may be used in combination with a hook (see later section). The screw eye with machine-screw threads would pass all the way through the wood and have a nut and washer. How-to hints: In some cases, a screw eye may be installed a little out of alignment with the mating hook. Rather than removing it and reinstalling it, you can bend it into alignment with pliers. For maximum strength when hanging things, use the screw eye with machine-screw threads rather than the lag-screw type. |
