Buying information: The main problem with a flush valve seat is that it gets pitted so that the seal between it and the tank ball is not perfect, and water leaks from the tank into the bowl.
Sometimes just scouring the seat with steel wool can smooth it enough to make the seal work, but occasionally it is so badly pitted that the seat has to be replaced or a flush valve renewal seat used.
A renewal seat is basically a plastic ring that is glued over the old seat.
How-to hint: Instructions for securing the renewal seat to the existing seat are on the package. The key is to make sure the old seat is clean and dry so that the epoxy adhesive, which has a putty like consistency, makes a good bond.
