LEAD WOOL, MISCELLANEOUS HARDWAREDescription: Lead wool resembles very coarse steel wool. Buying information: This is available in 1-pound clumps. It is used as a hole filler, and works like a plastic sleeve for anchoring screws into holes made in concrete walls or floors. How-to hints: Use lead wool when a hole for a screw is fractionally out of position. Just fill the hole with lead wool, tamp it down a bit, then drive in the screw. The screw will grip firmly, as it might not if a standard sleeve that was slightly misaligned were used. Lead wool can also be used for fastening a door threshold to a concrete floor. Be sure to pack lead wool lightly in the hole -- it will grip the screw threads better. |
