SLIDING CLOSET DOOR HARDWAREDescription: Closet door hardware comes in kit form and usually consists of wheels, track, wheel brackets, and a floor guide. Buying information: Different manufacturers make the hardware in different sizes and forms; thus, on a one-to-one replacement basis, there is no guarantee that one company's wheels, for example, can be used to replace another's. But in kit form the pieces are made to fit a particular door size (1 3/8 inches or 3/4 inch). How-to hints: Sliding doors are easier to hang than bifold doors because they allow room for error. Sliding doors should overlap 1 inch, but a 1/2-inch overlap will work, and so will a 2-inch overlap. Track comes in lengths of 4,5, and 6 feet, but these can be easily cut down with a hacksaw. Also, wheel brackets -- one straight and one bent -- are made so they can be used on standard 3/4-inch or 1 3/8-inch doors. Installation instructions come with the kit. These are written for replacing a door in an existing opening, but they can be adapted for new work. |
