WORM-GEAR HOSE CLAMP
Description: This is a perforated band of stainless steel with a barrel like worm-gear drive, one end of which is slotted to accept a screwdriver. Buying information: Hose clamps come in many sizes characterized by number, generally ranging from 6 to 64. Number 6 is for a 3/8-inch diameter hose; number 64 is large enough to be used with a 3 1/2- to 4-inch diameter material (such as smoke pipe). In the smaller sizes the clamps come already assembled, but in the larger sizes they come as flat strips that are put together by slipping the ends into the worm gear. For maximum resistance to corrosion, in outdoor or marine applications, be sure to get the all-stainless variety; on some brands the worm and housing are only zinc-plated. How-to hint: Hose clamps can be linked together to form very large, individual-sized clamps for handling things up to a couple of feet in diameter. |
