STEM CASTER
Description: This has a metal tube or projection extending up from a metal frame in which the wheel rides. Buying information: Stems vary in size; the bigger the wheel, the bigger the stem. Stem casters are made for mounting in legs that have corresponding sockets, either metal or simply holes drilled in the legs. They are particularly good on legs that are ragged or in otherwise poor condition. How-to hints: Installation of stem casters may involve just inserting them into the leg sockets. In some cases, though, you'll have to drill new holes for sockets. If the sockets are too large for the stems, wrap the stems with masking tape or cellophane tape for a snug fit. You can also get a ridged nylon insert that can be forced into the socket hole; when the stem is inserted into this, it will hold solidly. |
