BALL BEARING CASTER
Description: This resembles an acorn with a metal ring on top with holes for attachment to the item, and part of the ball bearing exposed at the bottom. Buying information: These wheels have rotating balls at the heart of the mechanism. They don't roll as well as casters with wheels, but have an advantage in that, when mounted, only about 1/2 inch of the caster projects; in other words, only 1/2 inch in height is added to the item, rather than the average 2 inches of wheel casters. Consequently, they may be a good choice where there is a shortage of headroom. On the negative side, all the weight is focused on one point on the ball, and this can lead to marks on floors if items are very heavy. Vinyl and wood floors are particularly vulnerable. |
