WEATHER STRIPPING INTRODUCTIONOf all the things you can do to make a home energy-efficient, the one that gives the greatest return on your investment is weather stripping: using some sort of material to seal gaps around doors and windows. A properly caulked and weatherstripped house can reduce your fuel bills significantly. Weather stripping works simply. In the winter it helps keep warmed air inside the home and cold air out; in the summer, cooled air is blocked from getting out and hot air from getting in. The result is that the heating system doesn't work as hard to maintain temperature in the room -- and fuel savings are achieved. There is a wide variety of weather stripping, most of it simple to install. |
