LEAD SHIELD, WALL FASTENERS
Description: This consists of a lead shield or cylinder in various sizes.
Buying information: Lead shields are good for hanging things on concrete. Any of a variety of items can be hung, but the weight of the item must not exceed the capacity of the fastener or it will pull out of the wall. Lead shields are used in conjunction with wood screws or lag screws -- not machine screws.
How-to hints: To use a lead shield, drill a hole in the wall that is the diameter of the sleeve. Insert the sleeve through the item and into the hole, and tighten. As the screw is turned, the sleeve expands and locks in place.
The screw used should be 1/4 inch deeper than the sleeve. See also information on lead wool in this section.
