TURNBUCKLE
Description: This is a barrel-shaped device with holes at the ends -- one threaded right-handed, the other left-handed. A threaded rod with an eye at the other end is threaded into each hole. It commonly comes in a 42-inch length. Most turnbuckles are zinc-plated, but galvanized ones are available in the larger sizes. Buying information: Turning the turnbuckle tightens the rods. An eye-and-eye turnbuckle is good for securing to screens or other doors to take the sag out by pulling the door square. How-to hints: The turnbuckle may be screwed directly to the door, or wires may be looped into the eye ends of the rods and secured. You first turn a turnbuckle by hand, and then insert a rod (screwdriver, etc.) through the turnbuckle and use it as a handle to tighten it the rest of the way. Don't tighten it any more than necessary to support or align the door. |
