Buying information: Temperature pressure-control valves take the place of standard shower faucets and, by keeping the water pressure and temperature stable, protect against a shower user getting scalded. For example, if someone flushes a toilet in one bathroom, someone in another bath could be scalded because cold-water pressure drops and hot-water pressure rises. This valve has a mechanism that senses the pressure drop and instantly adjusts hot-water pressure.

How-to hints: This type of faucet is installed in the same way as a standard faucet. One manufacturer makes a plate that allows even a ceramic-tile wall to be opened up around the faucet. After the faucet is installed, the plate or escutcheon, which is oversized, is installed and covers the damage.
