ALUMINUM ANGLEDescription: This is like bar stock bent in half lengthwise. It comes 3/4-by-3/4 inch and 1-by-1 inch, in 6-foot and 8-foot lengths. Buying information: Angles are good for protecting shelf edging and thresholds, or as corner beading. How-to hints: Cut with a hacksaw and connect with sheet metal screws. If drilled, a good trick for this (and any other thicker metal) is first to push the drill bit into vegetable shortening. This keeps it from binding. ALUMINUM TUBING/FITTINGS Description: Tubing is square or round, with an outside diameter of 3/4 inch to l 1/4 inches, and in lengths of 6 or 8 feet. Various fittings, which resemble plumbing fittings, are available for connecting the material; these are made of cast aluminum. Buying information: Use for tent poles, backyard chair frames, frame for a boat cover. How-to hints: Cuts with a hacksaw. Use ordinary hammer-to-hammer connectors between pieces, which friction-fit inside tubing. |
