LAMP WIRE (ZIP CORD), LAMP PARTSDescription: This is flat wire in various colors that is segmented or grooved in the center for easier splitting (hence the name "zip cord") when preparing the wire for attaching to a lamp. It used to be 18 gauge but now must be 16 gauge. Buying information: Lamp wire can be bought off a reel in whatever length you wish, or in set lengths (9, 12, and 15 feet) and with plugs already attached. How-to hint: Lamp wire is polarized, meaning one wire is meant to be attached to the neutral side of the socket and the other to the "hot" side -- the one with the voltage. To identify this polarity, the hot wire is smooth, the neutral wire striated. |
