Buying information: This is an excellent security lock. Even if the door has glass panels, a burglar can't break a pane of glass and then reach in to turn the lock: you can only open it by key.
Also, on a back door, such a lock can deter a burglar who has gained entry through the front of the house from staying too long if he has planned an exit from the back.
The lock can be hazardous, however, if you have to get out fast, as in a fire. Opening this lock from the inside may be very difficult in a smoky, high-stress environment.
